Dynamics of a pasture soil microbial community after deposition of cattle urine amended with [(super 13)C] urea
Article Abstract:
The turnover of [(super 13)C] urea in pasture soil and the associated incorporation of (super 13)C in phospholipid fatty acids (PLFAs) after simulated deposition of cattle urine at two different urea concentrations is discussed. It was hypothesized that dynamics and labeling of PLFAs could provide information about the fate of urea and the response of nitrifiers to the sudden increase in N availability.

Dependence of arbuscular-mycorrhizal fungi on their plant host for palmitic acid synthesis
Article Abstract:
The germinating spores of arbuscular-mycorrhizal (Am) fungi do not have fatty acid synthase (FAS) activity but do have the ability to elongate and desaturate pre-existing 16-carbon fatty acids. This enzymatic profile was observed in Glomus intaradices and Gigaspora rosea, two phylogenetically distant AM fungi.

Role of lipid composition and lipid peroxidation in the sensitivity of fungal plant pathogens to aluminium chloride and sodium metabisulfite
Article Abstract:
Four fungal potato pathogens are studies to elucidate the role of membrane lipids and lipid peroxidation in the relative sensitivity of microorganisms exposed to these salts. The analysis demonstrates that the sensitivity is related to high intrinsic fatty acid unsaturation.
